Epic Games Drops Samsung Lawsuit

Epic Games this morning officially dropped its class action lawsuit against Samsung, which allegedly blocked the installation of its store on the South Korean giant's devices. The lawsuit was filed in September last year after Samsung introduced the Auto Blocker feature that prevents the installation of side-loaded applications for security reasons

This feature is very useful to prevent incidents of APK fraud installed by scammers via links on WhatsApp, for example, but is seen as a feature that can prevent customers from installing the Epic Games Store on their devices. The announcement was made by Epic Games CEO Tim Sweeney himself via his X account.

The announcement was made a day before Samsung launches the Galaxy Z Fold, Z Flip and Galaxy Watch series tomorrow in New York. It is not known if the two companies have agreed to resolve this issue outside of court. Perhaps the Epic Games Store was whitelisted by Samsung, which does not block installation even if Auto Blocker is enabled.

Auto Blocker has been enabled by default on all new Samsung devices since last year. It can be turned off by users if they are confident that the APK file they want to side-load is safe to use.
