Earlier this year, AMD introduced their AMD Ryzen AI Max+ 395 “Strix Halo” APU chip used in high-end laptops like the ASUS ROG Flow Z13, which features a powerful CPU and GPU combination.
Now, through several documents that have leaked onto the web that show a number of new Intel projects after the launch of Nova Lake-S in late 2026, Intel seems to be also showing a new competitor to the chip series with Nova Lake-AX.
This means that in 2027, Intel is expected to introduce APU offerings that combine CPU and GPU components in a single package, along with offering support for very large amounts of memory. Just like the Ryzen AI Max+ 395 which can support up to 128GB of LPDDR5 memory.
The expectation is that the Nova Lake-AX processor will combine a Nova Lake processor with a full-size Celestial (Intel Xe3) graphics chip, which can be paired with a huge amount of memory, and will feature computing and GPU power that can rival what AMD currently offers.
However, AMD is expected to introduce a successor to the Strix Halo, the Medusa Halo, in 2027, so Intel will have to compete with AMD's second-generation products in the increasingly competitive computing power market.
