Threads is improving its private messaging (DM) functionality by introducing a new feature that allows users to share photos directly in a conversation. This feature offers a more private alternative to open sharing, while also making DMs more versatile than just texting.
Users can start a conversation by opening their inbox and tapping the ‘+’ icon in the top right corner. There are two methods of sharing photos:
Existing images: Click on media > select a photo > tap send.
Capture a new photo: Click the camera icon > select ‘Use Phone’ > ‘take a photo > send as usual.
As a security and privacy measure, users can only send DMs if they follow each other on Threads, or if one of them follows a linked Instagram account. This feature is available in the latest version of Threads, so users are advised to update the app to fully enjoy this new functionality.
