The United States and China are the world's two superpowers in artificial intelligence (AI) technology. Oxford University has published a report that 90% of the world's data centers are held by companies from the United States and China. Therefore, other countries are rushing to close the gap. Yesterday, the United Kingdom government signed a strategic agreement to use AI technology developed by OpenAI.
OpenAI technology will be used in the health, education, defense, security, justice and more sectors. For example, AI technology will be used to find opportunities or drive economic growth and improve NHS health services.
This is seen as part of the UK's efforts to spend £1 billion to increase public computing capacity by 20 times over five years. It can be seen that this year leading AI companies began to collaborate with the government.
In the United States, contracts of up to $200 million were awarded to OpenAI, Google, Anthropic and xAI by the Department of Justice to offer their technology for government use. In Malaysia, the collaboration between the government and Google is still on a much smaller scale through the AI At Work 2.0 initiative announced earlier this year.
