MIT Study Finds AI Integration Fails in 95% of Workplaces

OpenAI and Google market their artificial intelligence (AI) to help people do their jobs more effectively in the office. Subscriptions are now being given, with some companies now mandating the use of AI to increase productivity while at others, AI is causing thousands of people to be laid off. The question now is, is AI integration in the workplace really effective?

According to the report GenAI Distribution: The State of AI in Business 2025 produced by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology NANDA (Networked Agents and Decentralized AI), generative AI integration fails to increase company revenue in 95% of workplaces. The conclusion was reached after interviewing 150 executives, polling 350 employees and reviewing 300 publicly announced AI deployments.

AI has only had a positive impact on startups, with younger employees seeing soaring profits. This is because they are aware of the issues, executing plans well and working with AI companies to solve the issues.

In other companies, a knowledge gap in using AI and the organization exists, making it ineffective. ChatGPT for example is an excellent AI assistance tool for individuals that is not flexible enough for enterprises because it cannot yet be adapted to the company's workflow.

The conclusion is that the failure is not because AI is not capable, but rather because the workforce still does not know how to fully integrate it into the organization.
