MediaTek introduces Kompanio 540 designed specifically for affordable Chromebooks. This chip offers high performance and energy efficiency, and allows for all-day use. In addition, it is said to save up to 35% energy compared to the previous Kompanio 520 model.
The Kompanio 540 is equipped with an eight-core chip in a 2 + 6 configuration, which is two Cortex-A78 cores at 2.6GHz and six energy-efficient Cortex-A55 cores at 2.0GHz. The chip is also combined with an ARM Mali-G57 MC2 GPU that supports 4K display at 60Hz and connection to two 2.5K resolution monitors simultaneously.
The chip supports Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6.0 and Bluetooth Low Energy (LE) technologies. It also offers memory and storage options with support for LPDDR5-6400 and LPDDR4x-4266 RAM, as well as faster eMMC 5.1 and UFS 3.1 storage. Additionally, the chip supports USB 3.2 Gen 2 and PCIe Gen 2 connectivity.
The Kompanio 540 will begin shipping in devices starting January 2026.
