Samsung is reportedly considering raising device sales prices due to the memory shortage issue in the market. A few years ago, memory oversupply caused Samsung Semiconductor to suffer losses due to plummeting prices. But this year, memory prices have increased due to high memory requirements driven by demand for chips for data centers.
Interestingly, the affected devices are from the mid-range and low-end classes, not the flagship class. The selling price of the Galaxy S26 series, which will be launched next year, is believed to not increase. This is because high demand for high-performance memory such as HBM for data centers has led to more focus on increasing production.
Production of memory for PCs and cheaper DRAM will decrease, creating a shortage of stocks, pushing up prices. This memory shortage is predicted to continue for two years until global memory production stabilizes.
