The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission is currently in the process of seeking public views and feedback on the new mandatory standards for prepaid user registration. Through this, several things have changed, in order to continue to ensure that users and the use of related services are protected and not abused.
Several changes will be introduced under the new regulations, including one of which is that individuals aged 12 to 17 are required to undergo the registration process through a parent or legal guardian.
In addition, the new regulations will also introduce a new limit on the number of SIM cards that can be registered in the name of an individual, thus reducing SIM card abuse.
Not only that, the new regulations will also allow enforcement action to be taken not only against service providers, but also against distributors involved in the prepaid user registration process – thus ensuring accountability across the registration chain, as well as reducing abuse.
MCMC is now accepting feedback and views from the public until 28 November 2025, before these new regulations are brought to the next phase.
