NexG, formerly known as Datasonic Group Sdn Bhd, has reportedly just signed a new agreement with the Malaysian government to supply identity cards for Malaysians.
The agreement is worth RM732.2 million and will be effective from June 1, 2026 to May 31, 2032 for six years. Through this contract, NexG will not only continue to supply MyKad and MyTentera identity cards, but will also supply identity cards with newer technologies, which will enable it to store more citizen data, in a more secure manner.
“The upgraded MyKad is not just an identity card, but a secure national digital key and the foundation of Malaysia’s digital footprint. With enhanced resilience and multi-layered security features, it is designed to resist data forgery, protect against tampering, and ensure long-term reliability while enabling citizens to participate in the digital economy safely,” according to a NexG spokesperson.
MyKad is currently used to verify citizens' identities to obtain targeted petrol subsidies under BUDI95, MyPass 50, and can later be used to perform more activities related to government services.
Meanwhile, NexG has also just renewed a contract to supply passports to Malaysians worth RM1.73 billion for the next six years at the end of August this year.
