YouTube is introducing a new feature that allows users to set screen time limits for Shorts content via the mobile app.
The move is intended to help users control their viewing time and encourage healthier usage habits. The feature complements existing time management functions such as Bedtime and Take a Break reminders and will be integrated into Parental Controls by the end of this year.
When a user reaches the set time limit, the system will display a notification that can be closed as a sign that Shorts scrolling has stopped for that day. For supervised accounts, parents can set notifications that cannot be closed, thus strengthening control over children's viewing time.
This move is also in line with the efforts of other platforms such as Instagram and TikTok, which also provide time management features. At the same time, it is expected to increase user awareness of the use of technology in a more controlled manner.
