WhatsApp Backup Encryption Now Supports Passkey

Encrypting WhatsApp backups has become easier this morning after the app was updated to support Passkey. Messages backed up to the cloud can be locked using the Passkey system in the form of a fingerprint scan, face scan or passcode. It is a much easier system than memorizing a password or 64-digit code that WhatsApp previously offered.

To use this feature, users simply need to go to Settings > Chats > Chat backup > End-to-end encrypted backup. According to WhatsApp, this feature will be gradually rolled out to all users in the coming weeks and months.

Passkey support has long been requested by WhatsApp users because it is integrated on Android and iOS devices. Memorizing a password and 64-digit code was previously cumbersome and if forgotten, the backed up messages could not be accessed forever.
