Apple today is ready to offer a satellite communication feature for emergency purposes, especially in locations that do not have WiFi access or telecommunications networks. According to a Bloomberg report today, Apple is said to be expanding the satellite communication feature to several other functions and uses.
One of them is navigation support on Apple Maps using satellites, making it easier for users to continue using the mapping feature even if there is no cellular and WiFI support in an area. This also allows users to continue using Apple Maps if they get lost in a location without a network.
In addition, Apple is also considering the function of sending pictures via Messages using satellites, and also the use of a 5G network via satellite where telecommunications transmitter towers use satellites for wider coverage.
However, the offering of this satellite feature is still limited to a few countries, and has not yet been widely offered. Perhaps by focusing on this network feature, we will see it expanded to other countries. For your information, Apple was previously willing to fund Globalstar for the development of this satellite network infrastructure.
