Government Agrees to Develop One-Stop Application for Electric Vehicle Charging Platform

The purchase and use of electric vehicles is increasing in Malaysia, with the latest figures estimating that around 4345 electric cars were registered as of October 2025, and this figure is expected to increase further, especially with the return of import duties for EV vehicles starting next year.

This increase is seen in line with the government's mandate to develop 10 thousand electric vehicle charging points in Malaysia by the end of 2025. The number of charging companies/platforms has also been seen to have increased significantly, with most of them coming forward with their own applications.

During the National Energy Council (MTN) Meeting Number 2 of 2025 chaired by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, he confirmed that approval has been given to build an e-Mobility Service Platform that will integrate and coordinate the operations of electric vehicle (EV) charging stations nationwide.

This means that there will soon be an app that EV owners can use to find the nearest electric charger to them more easily without having to switch apps.

This can also be seen as a confirmation of the announcement made by the Ministry of Housing and Local Government in March this year to develop an app that will map EV charger locations throughout Malaysia.

There are several challenges that can be seen in developing such an app, such as integration between different charging platforms and also ensuring that information about the location and activity of these charging points is accurate or not.

Several charging companies also offer the ability to book charging spots and whether such functions will also be featured on the e-MSP app is not yet known.
