Government is currently studying the introduction of floor prices for courier services

The government is currently studying the proposal to set floor prices for courier services in Malaysia, thus ensuring that the courier industry remains healthy and at the same time does not burden consumers.

This study is seen to take into account a number of things, including an audit related to operating costs, in addition to looking at the price structure for the industry in Malaysia. Touching on this, the courier market in Malaysia is currently led by 15 licensees who manage 98% of deliveries in Malaysia. In Malaysia, a total of 102 companies have been granted licenses, of which 21 are international companies, and 81 are local companies or based in Malaysia with a majority local ownership.

J&T Express and SPX Xpress are two giant companies that have around 73.5% market share in Malaysia today.

Speaking about it, the Minister of Communications said that although this floor price has been introduced, it will be more of a guide for now, and will serve as a benchmark for courier licensees in Malaysia.
