RAM and storage prices have risen sharply over the past three months due to high demand for NAND modules for data center needs. Xiaomi and Samsung have already warned that their products cannot avoid price increases in the near future. At Lenovo, they have started accumulating RAM inventory to prevent this from happening.
According to Bloomberg, Lenovo has accumulated memory inventory and several other components so that it is sufficient to cover production needs throughout 2026. Memory inventory alone is currently 50% higher than usual.
Analysts predict that memory and storage price increases will continue until 2027 driven by data center demand that has not yet shown signs of decreasing. Data centers, especially those involving AI, are being built like mushrooms after the rain to meet the needs of computing power.
The impact of AI is no longer limited to high water consumption like in Johor but has forced nuclear power stations to be built in the United States. Now the prices of all devices that require RAM and memory will also be affected. The last time there was a RAM shortage was during the pandemic and then it fell sharply after demand fell sharply due to the global economic recession.
