Earlier this morning, Google showed off Project Aura, a pair of augmented reality (XR) glasses that run Android XR. It was developed in collaboration with XReal, which has been offering XR glasses that can be connected to Android devices for several years.

Although in the form of glasses, Project Aura offers a similar experience to the Galaxy XR that was launched a few months ago. The difference is that it is smaller, much lighter and combines the real world with XR elements without the need for a screen in front of the eyes.

Like the Galaxy XR, Project Aura also uses the Snapdragon XR2 Plus Gen 2 chip. It provides a 70-degree FOV view with the glasses connected to the processing module using a cable.

Project Aura users can not only watch virtual videos floating in the XR world but also use it with a Windows computer as an additional screen.

Project Aura will be launched next year with another pair of glasses that only support audio but still use Android XR also being launched. Google has announced a partnership with Samsung and Gentle Monster to offer Android XR glasses next year. With their offering, Google wants to give competition to Meta which is currently dominating the smart glasses market.
