As we all know, when Elon Musk took over Twitter in 2023, he renamed the platform “X” and removed all use of the Twitter brand to make it more familiar to users.
Recently, we reported on “Operation Bluebird” who wanted to use the Twitter brand and related branding, such as Tweet and so on, because technically, X had removed the use of the branding from their terms and conditions for a long time, and this allowed anyone who wanted to use it to file a request with the US Patent and Trade Office.
Interestingly, today X updated the platform’s terms and conditions, with a paragraph of text stating that X still owns the rights to use the Twitter name, and nothing in the terms and conditions says anyone has the right to use the branding.
Nothing in the Terms gives you a right to use the X name or Twitter name or any of the X or Twitter trademarks, logos, domain names, other distinctive brand features, and other proprietary rights, and you may not do so without our express written consent.
X has also filed a countersuit against Operation Bluebird saying that X still has ownership rights over the branding.
