Coursera today made a surprise announcement and announced that it will acquire its closest competitor, Udemy. Coursera acquired Udemy for around $930 million, through a stock exchange.
With this acquisition, it simultaneously formed a giant online learning platform company, and is expected to be positioned to more easily acquire enterprise users for the purpose of knowledge enhancement, training and learning.
This combination comes at a time when the popularity of learning involving artificial intelligence, data science, analytics, statistics, and so on is increasing day by day. The development of the online learning arena has slowed down a bit post-Covid, and with the development of artificial intelligence, many are looking for a reference center for self-learning. Companies are also looking for a center to upgrade the knowledge and capabilities of their employees.
With the combination of these two companies, it is now worth $2.5 billion.
