Following yesterday's report, the WSJ now says Amazon may invest up to $50 billion in OpenAI. The artificial intelligence company is in the process of raising up to $100 billion, and if this new report is accurate, Amazon will contribute half of the funding.
In addition to Amazon, among the names also mentioned are NVIDIA, Microsoft and SoftBank.
For Amazon itself, it is seen as further diversifying its portfolio. Amazon also has an investment in Anthropic. In addition, Amazon is also developing data center infrastructure, and this investment may also allow OpenAI to turn it around in the form of a data center service subscription.
The report regarding this investment comes just days after Amazon announced that it would lay off up to 16,000 employees in an effort to improve the company's operational efficiency.
