MCMC Seizes Over 10,000 Communications Equipment Not Certified to Technical Standards

The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) announced that 10,112 communications equipment that was not certified according to technical standards was seized in an integrated operation known as Op Optik. This action involved equipment sold physically as well as through e-commerce platforms and social media.

Citing video footage shared through the X platform, the operation also showed the seizure of various products including closed-circuit cameras (CCTV) as well as several premises operation support equipment such as computers, printers, mobile phones and WiFi routers. MCMC stressed that enforcement will continue to be intensified from time to time to combat the sale of uncertified communications equipment.

According to MCMC, this firm action is part of its ongoing efforts to regulate the communications market and ensure that only equipment that is certified and meets standards is offered to consumers in Malaysia.
