Parents Can Now Control How Long Kids Watch Shorts on YouTube

YouTube has announced several new updates to ensure a safer viewing experience for children and families. This move is in line with the company's commitment to protecting young viewers through specific protections that have been provided.

Among the new features introduced are additional controls that allow parents to set a time limit for Shorts viewing for children, including the option to set it to zero. Supervised teen accounts can also receive customized Bedtime and Take a Break reminders.

In addition, YouTube is also introducing quality content guidelines for teens developed with the YouTube Youth Advisory Committee, UCLA, and global experts such as the American Psychological Association and the Digital Wellness Lab. These guidelines are designed to help users create fun, age-appropriate, and beneficial content.

The account experience is also improved with the ability for parents to create new accounts for their children and easily switch between accounts through the mobile app. This move ensures that every member of the family enjoys age-appropriate viewing. According to YouTube, the company will continue to work to ensure that the platform remains safe while at the same time being a source of inspiration for future generations.
