Internet Coverage in Malaysia Now Reaches 99.71% of Populated Areas

Minister of Communications, Fahmi Fadzil now shared that internet coverage in Malaysia has now reached 99.71% of populated areas, thus showing a progressive increase since the JENDELA initiative was implemented.

The achievement of this figure is also seen in line with the government's aspirations in reducing the digital divide, while at the same time ensuring that rural areas are not left behind in enjoying internet access. For several locations that are difficult to reach via fixed lines, the government is using several other alternatives, including the use of internet transmission via satellite.

The Minister also said that the government is encouraging telecommunications companies to share infrastructure to further accelerate the expansion and improvement of service quality.

With the achievement of JENDELA 1, the government is now in the research phase for JENDELA 2, and it is expected to be implemented in stages which will focus on 4G and 5G coverage, with a focus on rural areas.
