Early January, Realme was absorbed back into Oppo, making it the second company after OnePlus became like a betel nut returning to the handle. As a result, Realme employees have begun to be laid off, according to a report by 91Mobiles. The affected employees are Realme's sales team, management, and physical store employees who are no longer needed as it is now fully under Oppo.
Employees have received instructions that their contracts will expire in 1-2 months with the end date of employment being April 30, 2026. Realme was founded in 2018 as a sub-brand of Oppo and then became a standalone company two months after its establishment. From the beginning, Realme has offered affordable devices for the Indian market. Therefore, the highest sales of the device have consistently been in India.
Why Realme returned to the fold like OnePlus has never been revealed. But the workforce reduction was also done on OnePlus after becoming a sub-brand. For device users, there is no change in device support but with the issue of lack of memory and storage this year, don't be surprised if some Realme devices will not be offered this year to make way for Oppo devices first.
