Sony is known for its various gaming hardware and accessories, in addition to other electronic equipment. Recently, they have recently filed and been granted a patent for a very interesting controller.
The patent is for game controller technology that comes with full touch input, without any physical buttons. This touch area comes with several interesting features of its own, such as the ability to modify the position and number of buttons displayed on the touch surface.
The touch surface with these “buttons” is shown on the front and back of the controller, allowing users to modify various types of settings according to the user’s comfort and the button needs for the game.
In the meantime, this surface can also track various types of input, including taps, pinches, swipes and can distinguish between input entered using a directional pad or joystick. It also comes with a pre-touch function that can track touches when a finger approaches the touch surface.
For now, Sony has only filed and been awarded this patent, but there are no plans to introduce it as a product for sale in the future.
