Although electric cars (EVs) are gaining popularity among consumers, the issue of insufficient charging is still a major issue, especially during the festive season.
With more electric cars traveling long distances, charging is done more frequently and this creates some travel anxiety when there are users who leave their vehicles in the charging area after the vehicle is fully charged.
To curb this, Gentari is now introducing an idle fee to all their chargers nationwide, except in hotels and resort areas. For electric cars that charge more than 100%, a charge of RM 0.40/minute will be charged after 15 minutes of charging.
With this, if the car is fully charged, the driver must move the vehicle to avoid a pile of idle charges that will be charged. This idle fee will replace the ‘Overstay Fee’, which was previously charged after 4 hours of AC charging, or 1 hour after DC charging.
This idling charge is not new with other charging providers including Chargesini and TIME Charge ’n Go also having similar policies. This policy is expected to encourage EV owners to move their vehicles as soon as they are fully charged but it is still ineffective if there are those who do not mind idling charges.
