The US-Israeli war on Iran is now entering its third week, with its impact being seen in rising oil prices in Malaysia. More than a thousand deaths have been reported in Iran due to attacks so far. Yesterday, the US-based medical equipment company Stryker was attacked by the Iran-linked Handala hacking group.
Handala claimed the attack was in retaliation for the US missile attack on a school in Minab, Iran, which killed more than 175 people. They claimed to have deleted 50TB of critical Stryker data, rendering staff devices inoperable.
Stryker confirmed it was the victim of the attack but said there was no evidence of malware or ransomware. At the same time, the incident is now under control but the cost to the operation is still unknown.
Iranian media reported that the offices of US technology companies such as Microsoft, Google, Palantir, IBM, NVIDIA, and Oracle may be targeted in the Middle East due to their involvement with technology used by the military.
This cyberattack can also be seen as a response to the cyberattack carried out by Israel on the BadeSaba prayer time application. The application displays notifications asking military personnel to lay down their arms. It also asks military personnel to fight the government and help anti-government supporters who want to overthrow the country's leadership. Members who defect are promised amnesty if the government is successfully overthrown.
