In Malaysia, there is a movement asking the government to become a “big brother” that controls who can access social media and websites. This movement follows what Australia has done by using the reason that it is for the safety of children. In fact, this is still the responsibility of parents and not the government.
For parents and guardians who are still concerned about their children, WhatsApp has announced a feature to control accounts belonging to minors. Through this control feature, parents and guardians can set who can send messages to their children and which groups they can join. They can also see messages received from unknown accounts and set the level of privacy.
All of these features are locked using a PIN code on the child’s device to ensure that settings cannot be changed without permission. This feature. will be rolled out in stages starting next month.
