We regularly report on power generation technologies using modular nuclear, solar, liquid salt, water and also the development of world fusion technology. Electric power generation using fossil fuels is not sustainable and as is currently the case, war can cause petroleum supplies to stop. To ensure their energy sources are secure, a Compressed Air Energy Storage Station (CAES) has started operations in Huai’an, China which is also the largest in the world.
CAES stores air at high pressure in underground salt caverns at a depth of 1,150–1,500 m. It has a capacity of 980,000 m³ with air compressed when energy demand is low. When energy demand increases, this air is released by two turbines generating up to 600 MW of electricity for grid needs.
Through this CAES station in Huai’an, 792 million kWh can be generated annually, enough to power 600,000 households and reduce the use of 250,000 tons of coal and the emission of 600,000 tons of CO₂ each year. China is now the country that generates electricity using the highest amount of sustainable sources in the world. The world’s largest solar and wind farms are also located in China.
