The Acer Predator laptop brand typically comes in many different designs which makes it a fairly unique gaming laptop brand. Not least with the Acer Predator Triton 14 AI which was introduced last year, combining the use of Intel Evo (Intel Core Ultra 200V) processing chips along with premium laptop-class graphics cards.

As expected As its name suggests, the Acer Predator Triton 14 AI comes in a 14-inch screen design, which may seem small and “too compact” for a gaming laptop. However, the laptop’s display uses an OLED panel and comes in a higher 16:10 aspect ratio with a 3K resolution (2880×1800) and a 120Hz refresh rate.
Interestingly, it is powered by a combination of the Intel Core Ultra 9 288V CPU and GPU and the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5070 (8GB GDDR5), which is from the Intel Core Ultra 200 “Lunar Lake” series that is more commonly seen in thin and light laptops.
For this laptop model, it also comes with 32GB of LPDDR5X memory soldered directly to the CPU component and a 2TB PCIe 4.0 SSD storage that is large enough to accommodate the Microsoft Windows 11 operating system and a number of modern computer games that come with large storage requirements.
For I/O connections, it has USB Type-C (Thunderbolt 4) and USB Type-A (USB 3.2) ports on both the left and right sides, which also support Power Delivery charging via USB, and an HDMI 2.1 port on the left. Unlike a large number of other gaming laptops, the Predator Triton 14 AI lacks an RJ-45 LAN port for wired internet connections, which is expected due to its thinner frame design compared to other gaming laptops.
Moving on to the design, in my opinion, the Predator Triton 14 AI comes with a very minimalist design, with a dark gray aluminum frame that adds to the dark aesthetic that for me is quite beautiful.
The RGB-lit keyboard reminds me that the Predator Triton 14 AI is a gaming laptop, but when it is turned off, it is like I am using a laptop with a full focus on productivity.
Display & Audio
As mentioned, the Predator Triton 14 AI comes with a 3K (2880 x 1880) resolution OLED panel with a 120Hz refresh rate, which is fast enough for games that can take advantage of the fast refresh rate, such as first-person shooters.
But more importantly, the color and graphics presented on this display are absolutely beautiful, and are suitable for watching and playing a variety of content, from streaming videos to playing your favorite computer games.
However, since this display comes with a glossy screen, the reflection of light shown on this screen may interfere with your entertainment experience. Meanwhile, the lack of a Variable Refresh Rate feature on this screen, even though it is supported on NVIDIA graphics cards, can cause screen tearing and uneven refresh rate issues, although in our experience, this is rare.
The audio quality on the Predator Triton 14 AI's built-in speakers is also quite loud, thanks to the six-speaker audio system that surrounds the laptop, but for me, it needs some extra bass, especially if you're also using the laptop to play your favorite tunes.
User Experience
The combination of Intel's Lunar Lake productivity laptop processor and NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5070 gaming graphics card is an odd, but very interesting combination. It's worth noting that these chips are typically found in thin and light laptops, and don't have the same processing power as Intel's more powerful H or HX series chips.
However, we played a few PC games like Valorant and Code Vein II to test the laptop's performance, graphics, and refresh rate capabilities.
For e-sports games like Valorant, high resolution and graphics processing are not as important as refresh rates for a smoother shooting and dodging experience. For me, a casual gamer, this is not something I care about, but for those who are used to playing first-person shooter games at a refresh rate of 240Hz, or at a professional level, this may be an issue for them.
Code Vein II, an RPG game that comes with very beautiful graphics can be driven at high settings and a refresh rate of 60FPS and a resolution of 1440p with the help of DLSS resolution upscaling technology allows this game to be played beautifully and comfortably.
In terms of productivity, although other Intel Core Ultra 200V laptops that we reviewed previously come with long battery life, the usage on this laptop is seen to be much lower compared to those computers. For this laptop, it is loaded with a 4-cell Li-ion battery with a capacity of 76Whr.
In our experience, the Acer Predator Triton 14 AI when the display is set to 50 percent brightness and the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5070 graphics card is not in use, comes with a lifespan of about 5 hours, and this figure is seen as very far compared to the 11-12 hours that can be shown on other thin and light laptops that use the same CPU series.
However, the computing performance of this CPU is not affected other than the battery issue, and can be used continuously, and fast charging via the 65W and 100W Power Delivery charging connections can charge the battery quickly.
The typing experience using the keyboard on this laptop is also in my opinion quite comfortable, but for gaming sessions, you may want to use a foreign keyboard because that part can be seen to get quite hot especially when playing computer games for a long time.
The fan sound is also not seen to be very noisy, but when the CPU and GPU components are used at maximum levels, the cooling system that uses the latest generation Aeroblade 3D fan will spin at a very fast rate. If you use headphones as the audio output, the sound will not bother you.
What's In The Box
This is what is offered in the box when you buy an Acer Predator Triton 14 AI laptop:
1x Acer Predator Triton 14 AI
100W charger
User manual
Cover
The Acer Predator Triton 14 AI is a gaming laptop that basically looks quite interesting. However, with a price tag of RM12,999 it is quite difficult for me to recommend it to the public.
If you want a laptop with a compact design, but with powerful specifications, the Predator Triton 14 AI may be seen as a sensible solution. However, at the mentioned price tag, technically you can also buy a gaming laptop that not only comes with a more powerful processing chip, but also a larger screen option that retains many of the gaming features you want from a laptop of this class.
Pros:
Compact, thin and light design
Impressive CPU and graphics card specs
Beautiful OLED touchscreen display
Good gaming performance
Cons:
Very premium price tag
Battery life is not that long
Average audio quality
Keyboard area gets very hot when playing computer games
