Electric vehicle (EV) battery technology has taken another step forward with the introduction of CATL’s third-generation LFP Shenxing battery. This battery can be fully charged in less than 7 minutes. The most interesting metric is that charging from 10% to 80% can be done in just 3 minutes and 44 seconds.
Geely Energee Golden Brick Battery technology performs the same charge in 5 minutes and 32 seconds. The charging performance is as follows.
10% → 35%: 1 minute
10% → 80%: 3 minutes and 44 seconds
10% → 98%: 6 minutes and 27 seconds
At -30°C → 98%: 9 minutes
To achieve this fast charging time, CATL has improved the efficiency of the cooling system by 20%. At the same time, the battery heating system is also better for charging in freezing temperatures.
According to CATL, the battery health level is still above 90% after the battery has undergone 1000 ultra-fast charging cycles. With the introduction of this latest generation Shenxing battery, CATL is increasing its competition with BYD which also has its own battery technology. At this point, CATL holds 48.3% of the global EV battery market, far leaving BYD in second place with 17% of the market.
