Do you feel like social media platforms are now filled with more ads than uploads from friends, relatives and family? This is not just your feeling because the reality is that modern social media is now an infinite billboard with content forced into your eyes.
According to a report by Omdia this week, the four major social media platforms namely Facebook, Instagram, YouTube and TikTok control over 90% of the revenue of social media advertisers. Of this slice of the pie, Meta takes 70% of it making them the world's largest social media advertising platform.
Despite the global economy being in turmoil and wars creating power crises, social media advertising is still expected to grow 19% in 2026. By 2030, total global ad spending is expected to exceed $1.6 trillion, with $1.5 trillion of that coming from online advertising.
Social media video ads are expected to account for 40% of global TV and video revenue by 2030. Smart TV ads are expected to overtake traditional TV ads in the 2030s, driven by big players like Amazon, Netflix and Google. Traditional broadcasters continue to lose market share, falling from 43% (2020) to 25% (2030).
So if you’re wondering why social media ads are on the rise, YouTube ads are getting longer and more young people are aspiring to become influencers around the world, the answer is simple.
