OpenAI and Microsoft Deal No Longer Exclusive

OpenAI and Microsoft are ending their exclusive collaboration agreement signed in 2023. The new, revised agreement allows OpenAI to offer its models on other cloud services and is no longer exclusive to Azure as was the case in the previous agreement. Microsoft, however, will remain the primary cloud partner until 2032.

OpenAI will still pay Microsoft a 20% revenue share, but now with a cap until 2030. The revenue share is no longer contingent on OpenAI’s technological advancements, including the removal of the AGI clause.

The new agreement comes after OpenAI and Amazon signed a $50 billion AWS deal. Microsoft is reportedly considering legal action over the deal, which clearly violates the exclusivity it signed
