Samsung Stops Production of DDR4 Memory Chip Series

Samsung is one of the world's largest memory and storage component manufacturers, and has produced many of these components for various industries, from computers and consumer devices, automotive, manufacturing industries, data centers and so on.

Recently, it was reported that Samsung has set the production status of DDR memory components, including LPDDR4 as end of life or discontinued, and will no longer take new orders for these memory components.

Looking at the Samsung Semiconductor website, it has also announced that LPDDR4 and LPDDR4X components are no longer produced, and this is the biggest sign that Samsung will not take new orders and produce this memory anymore.

According to a report by The Elec, Samsung Semiconductor will gradually stop production of these memory chips throughout this year, meeting existing customer demand, before completely stopping it starting early next year.

Samsung has been producing DDR4 and LPDDR4 memory for about 8 to 10 years because the demand for it is still seen to be high. In fact, Samsung MX (Mobile Experience) and Qualcomm are seen as among Samsung Semiconductor's largest customers who still need these memory components to be used with their mid-range and affordable processor chips.

Samsung will soon produce DDR5, HBM memory and increase capacity for LPDDR5 memory production for modern consumer devices and AI hardware which is expected to generate greater profits for the company in the future.
