Google, Samsung and Warby Parker Smart Glasses with Android XR Shown

At the Google I/O 2026 event early this morning, Google officially showed the first two designs of Android XR smart glasses that will be marketed next fall. They are glasses developed in collaboration with Samsung and Warby Parker.

These two glasses are of the audio type with virtual assistant support, equipped with a camera and not equipped with a built-in screen. One design is more conventional like prescription glasses while the other is more stylish with a more feminine look and similar to regular sunglasses.

With these smart glasses, Google says it is trying to reduce the use of smartphones although both devices require a smartphone to function like a pair of Ray-Ban Meta. Through the built-in camera it can understand what the user is looking at. It can provide step-by-step navigation instructions.

The integration of the Gemini AI agent allows purchases to be made with voice commands without the owner opening the smartphone. All purchase confirmations are done with voice commands only. It also has Wear OS smartwatch integration.

Like last year's demo, real-time language translation can also be done. There is Uber integration, language learning through Mondly, and more according to Google when it launches later.
