This week, the Immigration Department postponed the introduction of a new international passport with a host of new security features. For those planning to apply for a new passport when it is offered, the Immigration Department reminds the public that the use of photos generated or modified using artificial intelligence (AI) is strictly prohibited.
The use of photos generated or modified by AI is a serious offence. If detected, it will result in the application for a new passport being rejected and the applicant being subject to action under the Passport Act 1966 (Act 150) which, if convicted of a passport offence, can carry a maximum fine of RM10,000, imprisonment for up to 5 years, or both.
