Samsung has agreed to pay KRW40 trillion (~RM105 billion) in bonuses to employees. Of this amount, 40% will go to semiconductor business employees with the rest going to other businesses within Samsung,
Samsung has around 28,000 employees in its semiconductor division, meaning they will receive an average bonus of KRW513 million (~RM1.3 million) per employee. The bonus consists of 10.5% of annual profits in the form of shares. and another 1.5% in cash. The bonus will continue for 10 years if the company meets its set targets. Employees can sell 1/3 of the shares they receive immediately, with the rest being paid in installments over the next two years.
The bonus received by Samsung Semiconductor employees is equivalent to 10 years of accumulated bonuses. This has caused envy among employees of other Samsung businesses who only receive a much lower bonus of KRW 6 million (~RM 16,000) per person.
