Insta360 Sues DJI for Alleging It Infringes on 360-Degree Camera and Gimbal Technology

Last week, DJI sued Insta360, claiming that the technology in the Insta360 Luna Ultra camera imitates the Osmo Pocket camera it released. Last weekend, Insta360 responded to this lawsuit with its own lawsuit, claiming that DJI infringed on patents for 360-degree camera and gimbal technology.

In the writ of summons filed in the United States, DJI is accused of infringing on patents for gimbal stabilization, gimbal direction control, camera stabilization, telemetry and panoramic video stabilization held by Insta360. The products that allegedly use these patents without authorization are the Osmo Pocket, Ronin/RS, Osmo Mobile, and Osmo 360.

DJI last week sought a permanent injunction to ban the sale of the Luna Ultra in the United States. Insta360 later denied the claim that the Luna Ultra imitates DJI, and insisted that the development of the product began in 2020 based on technology from the ONE R, Link and Flow series.

The lawsuit between the two companies has now spread to the United States after earlier this year a lawsuit alleging technology copying was filed only in China. With DJI now banned from selling its products in the United States, this lawsuit is seen as an attempt to prevent Insta360 from taking over the compact gimbal camera market.
