The National Security Council (MKN) issued a statement today saying that an additional layer of security for the MyDigital ID registration process will be strengthened with real-time facial biometric verification. This scan will then be checked against a database maintained by the National Registration Department (JPN) to ensure the accuracy of the applicant’s identity.
This is part of the government’s ongoing efforts to improve the security of the country’s digital identity ecosystem, thereby reducing the risk of identity misuse and unauthorized access.
Existing users will be informed of the need to re-verify their facial biometrics periodically as part of an ongoing effort to ensure that the integrity and security of their digital identities are always maintained. This step was taken as the use of digital services is increasingly widespread among citizens, businesses and government agencies.
The security improvements will be implemented in stages at all MyDigital ID kiosks nationwide. Maintenance work on MyDigital ID kiosks is scheduled to take place from June 12 at 6am to June 14 at 6am to enable the update process using facial biometric scans to be implemented.
The public can still register for MyDigital ID through the mobile application which can be downloaded from the Google Play Store, Apple App Store and Huawei AppGallery.
These improvements to MyDigital ID are the beginning of a more comprehensive effort to strengthen the security of the country's identity ecosystem. MKN will continue to work with relevant agencies to coordinate security strengthening measures across various identity and identity verification platforms, including MyKad, to ensure that people's digital identities are always protected.
