Tesla will no longer offer the purchase of the Full Self Driving (FSD) self-driving system in Malaysia starting June 30. After that date, it will only be offered as a monthly subscription. FSD was previously offered as an additional package at RM32,000 to Tesla car buyers in Malaysia. The notice of termination of the service was announced by Tesla via its Instagram account and was noticed by Paul Tan's page.
In January, Elon Musk said that FSD would not be offered directly to customers in the United States and Canada starting February 14. Instead, it will be offered as a subscription package of only $99 per month after that date. At the time of writing, the FSD subscription price in Malaysia has not yet been displayed on Tesla's official website.
Although the FSD package is sold to customers in Malaysia, the self-driving system has not yet been activated and is still awaiting approval from the authorities. Therefore, local Tesla buyers are buying features that are still not certain to be used throughout the life of their car. In addition to Malaysia, permanent purchase of FSD has also been stopped in Australia, New Zealand, the United Kingdom and most of the European Union markets.
Tesla did not say why it would no longer sell the FSD package directly to customers. But in the EU, some customers are preparing to file a class action lawsuit against Tesla because FSD does not work as promised. Authorities in France have ordered Tesla to stop advertising for FSD, which they found to be non-transparent because it does not work as promised.
Since 2016, Musk has said that Level 5 self-driving systems would be available within three years. All of his predictions have failed to come true, with various reasons given. So far, only Mercedes-Benz cars have received approval for Level 3 self-driving systems
