Trip.com is a leading provider of travel booking services – covering flights and hotels. They have a number of brands under their umbrella, including Ctrip, Skyscanner, Qunar, and several others.
Today, Chinese authorities have imposed a $770 million fine on Trip.com Group, for abusing its dominant position in the domestic hotel booking market, and obtaining special prices for the platform.
It is said that this move will have a negative impact on competition, and for customers in the long term. This is because Trip.com’s move limits the ability of domestic hotels to operate across platforms, and freely control their own prices.
Trip.com said that they will accept and comply with the regulations set, and will implement various things that have been instructed in stages.
