Access to the Claude Mythos 5 and Fable 5 models will be reactivated for non-US citizens tomorrow. On June 13, access to these two SOTA models was blocked by Anthropic after receiving an order from the US Department of Commerce due to the risk of them being used by other countries for cyberwarfare purposes.
Anthropic was reportedly given only 90 minutes to block access to Mythos 5 and Fable 5. There are concerns that the models are being accessed by users in China to conduct distillation to train their own models with the same capabilities. Both models have the ability to find security vulnerabilities in systems and software that are then used to carry out cyberattacks.
Access to Mythos 5 and Fable 5 was gradually reactivated this morning after Anthropic put in place several systems to prevent them from being used for inappropriate purposes. Only Fable 5 can be accessed publicly.
Mythos 5 remains available to certain organizations that are allies of the US through Project Glasswing. The restrictions early last month simply prevented users outside the United States from accessing Mythos 5 even if they were allies.
