Mao Zedong, Jawaharlal Nehru, Steve Jobs and Tun Dr Mahathir are four prominent figures with iconic fashion styles. Among tech enthusiasts, a modern figure with his own iconic style is definitely NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang with his leather jacket. Last weekend, a pair of Huang's leather jackets were successfully auctioned for almost $1 million.
The auction was conducted by leading auction house Sotheby's and it reached a final bid of $960,000 (~RM 3.9 million). The value is more than 16 times higher than the original estimate of $60,000. The identity of the auction winner was not disclosed by Sotheby's but the jacket sold by Tom Ford actually only costs $9000 if purchased in store.
This high value was achieved because Huang's rising popularity is driven by demand for artificial intelligence (AI) chips produced by NVIDIA. Proceeds from the auction will go to the Edge Institute, a non-profit organization that funds workers at the frontiers of technology, science, culture and society in small villages (Edge Cities) to live together and experiment towards a better future.
This Jensen Huang jacket has been verified as his by PSA (Professional Sports Authenticator) as it was worn by him on October 18, 2023 while attending an event organized by Foxconn in Taipei. There is Huang's signature on the inside pocket confirming that it was once his.
