In addition to ceasing PlayStation games on disc starting in 2028, Sony also announced that it will begin closing its digital game stores for the PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Vita. The closures will be phased in starting in Mexico, Honduras, and Nicaragua in August 2026. Then the closures in Latin American and Middle Eastern countries in late 2026 before the global store closure begins in July 2027.
Sony says the purchase store on both consoles is closing because it can no longer support modern commerce systems, including newer payment processing standards. After the store closes, new game purchases will no longer be possible. PS3 and PS Vita games that have been purchased digitally, however, will still be available for download.
For fans of classic video games, the only way to get your hands on games in the near future. is to buy them now before the price increases.
