Like Google Maps, Waze is now also focusing on Gemini. This update introduces a variety of new features that give drivers more options for how to use Waze while on the road.
First, Waze introduced the Conversational Reporting feature. Through it, users can report traffic incidents such as congestion, road closures or incorrect addresses simply by speaking naturally into the app. The report will then be sent to local map editors for verification before being displayed to other users.
In addition, Waze also introduced Motorcycle Mode. This feature uses AI to calculate special routes for two-wheelers taking into account road restrictions. It also provides more accurate travel time estimates and warns riders of specific hazards including potholes, bumps and narrow bridges. Interestingly, this feature is already available in Malaysia as part of the initial launch.
Next, Waze introduced a voice-based search feature with the help of Gemini. Through it, users can ask Waze to find a location such as ‘coffee shops that are open’ and immediately start navigation with just voice commands. For now, the feature is only available to beta users and a general launch date has not yet been announced.
In addition, Waze will also suggest routes based on your commute and understand city traffic patterns. If you prefer to drive on the highway over regular roads with lots of stops, the highway route will be displayed first.
Finally, Waze is introducing Less Chatty Mode, a simpler navigation for drivers who want to listen to music or podcasts without too much noise. While it is simpler, this mode still provides important alerts like hazards, potholes, and lane changes. The feature is rolling out globally.
