OpenAI launched ChatGPT for Teens, which it says is an artificial intelligence (AI) that is safer for teens to use. When it detects that users are under 18 years old or they set themselves to be between 13-17 years old, the account will automatically change to ChatGPT for Teens.
It has several safety features such as not being able to engage in sexual conversations or direct them to dangerous activities such as suicide, self-harm or unhealthy eating habits.
There is a special learning mode in ChatGPT for Teens that encourages users to learn step by step and not just ask ChatGPT to give answers directly. Also included is a quiz feature at the end of the learning to test understanding.
If the camera is accessed, it will warn whether the user is aware of the privacy risks of uploaded images. For parents and guardians, the daily usage time and when the application will be locked can be set with the built-in parental control settings.
The step of creating ChatGPT specifically for teens was taken after the incident of teenagers having sexual relations with AI and in a more tragic case committing suicide because they were encouraged by the chatbot.
