A Ferrari Luce was successfully auctioned for $40 million (~RM 163 million) by Sotheby's last weekend in support of The Ferrari Foundation. This is the first car with the chassis number 0 offered in the exclusive Madreperla Semi-Gloss color and Perla Le Mans leather trim in the cockpit.
The price achieved in this auction is almost 63 times the original selling price of $640,000 (~RM 2.6 million) after it was launched in May. The identity of the buyer of the first Luce unit was not disclosed by Sotheby's. The Ferrari Foundation will use the $40 million proceeds from this auction for educational purposes.
After its launch in May, Ferrari received criticism from fans because the Luce was the first car produced by their production that could accommodate five passengers. Its design, different from other Ferrari models, became the subject of jokes.
However, it is still equipped with four electric motors with a total power of 1035 horsepower. The rear motor produces the majority of the power at 831 HP and the front at 282 HP. It may look like a family car but its performance is still Ferrari-like with 0-100 km/h in 2.5 seconds and a top speed of 310 km/h.
