Two years after Sonos introduced its first headphone offering, the Sonos Ace, Sonos has finally introduced an update to the headphones, called the Sonos Ace Ultra. The new headphone design is seen to be similar to the previous model, but it finally arrives with a number of new features that previous Sonos Ace users have requested.
With the Sonos Ace Ultra headphones, Sonos says that it now comes with support for streaming audio from a variety of sources, including from television, local media streaming and also a variety of different streaming content services. As long as it can be played on any Sonos speaker, it can also be streamed through the Sonos Ace Ultra.
In the meantime, the Sonos Ace Ultra is also fully supported on all Sonos speakers, where users will soon be able to throw the audio playing on the headphones to any Sonos speaker and vice versa with just a button. The Sonos Ace Ultra uses the latest Headphone Engine 2 platform that comes with a more modern WiFi connectivity chip to add support for this wider wireless connection.
The Sonos Ace Ultra also features an 8-band EQ to allow users to further customize the audio quality, while two new microphones are introduced to improve the quality of active noise cancellation (ANC) which is said to be twice as good as what was offered on the previous Sonos Ace headphones. The upgraded headphone cushions also help in improving the audio quality and noise cancellation of these headphones.
In terms of battery, the Sonos Ace Ultra also shows an upgrade in life, where it has a battery life of 35 hours with continuous use with the ANC feature enabled. The Sonos Ace Ultra headphones will go on sale in select markets starting September 29 for $449, and are offered in black, white, light brown and blue (agave).
