BigPay offers many advantages to consumers

Sign up for BigPay now because this e-wallet makes it easy for you to travel and make withdrawals abroad.

The practice of cashless spending is great because every transaction is recorded and easy without having to look for an automatic teller machine (ATM) to withdraw money from the bank.

I also sincerely hope this culture is practiced more widely as it is more efficient and safe than spending using cash. To a certain extent, may the cashless society dominate daily business affairs.

According to statistics of smartphone users in Malaysia in 2020, a total of 24 million people actively use the internet and is the 10th country in the world as the highest smartphone owner. Therefore, the future of the fintech industry in Malaysia is very bright.

BigPay offers to consumers

E-wallet application with debit card

The integration between the app and the card is more interesting because the app is made specifically to keep records of spending transactions differently from other e-wallets.

The BigPay app launched on 12 January 2018 by Tony Fernandes, CEO of AirAsia offers many great features. To date, it has been my choice over other e-wallets.

Key features available on BigPay

 Advantages of BigPay

The BigPay application is not just an e-wallet application like others, it comes with a debit card that offers the following benefits:

  • Financial management applications with debit cards keep records of transactions done neatly and in an attractive layout like other financial records applications but easier because of the integration with cards.
  • Can send and receive money between members immediately meaning instant (such as Instant Transfer at the bank). This can be practiced to send a "split bill" which is a request payment from a friend when sharing payment for a purchase of goods or services.
  • Withdrawals at ATMs worldwide at the rate of RM10 (overseas) and RM6 (local) for each withdrawal. If there are family members who are claiming abroad can also use BigPay as a method of sending money to them. The advantage of BigPay is that it does not involve the bank, the money sent can be received immediately.
  • Top up up to RM10,000. If you use internet banking or a bank debit card to top up into a BigPay account there is no transfer limit. BigPay can hold a maximum fund amount of RM10,000 at a time.
  • Zero fee for AirAsia ticket purchase process. It is wiser to save when shopping including buying airline tickets and other value -added. When buying an AirAsia ticket, the processing fee is RM4 for internet banking and RM16 for other credit / debit cards, imagine if you regularly buy tickets, of course a large amount has been spent to pay the processing fee only. Use BigPay because there are no charges, and even get another discount for extra food on the flight.
  • The best currency exchange rates. When traveling abroad BigPay provides the best exchange rates. Each time you arrive in any foreign country, the currency exchange rate will be sent to you via the app and the BigPay card is ready to use at any time.
  • Shop and collect BIG Points. Each time you top up and purchase, you will definitely receive BIG Points which can be redeemed later for the purchase of AirAsia flight tickets.

Bank transfer. This is a new feature launched on September 24, 2019, if you look at the app there is a button on the payments section to perform Local bank transfer and International bank transfer.

Cashless culture

I have adopted a cashless culture in my daily spending activities to create a cashless society in our country. Who else wants to start, the self who wants a cashless practice for one reason that is easier to spend.

So much so that every time I had to withdraw cash at the restaurant or shop counter, I was willing to ask the cashier why not to practice cashless transactions and I listened to their answers while sharing some of the benefits of this cashless practice.

Carrying cash is a tedious practice for me as I have to go to the bank. The practice of cashless makes things easier, you can spend until the money in your bank savings account is smooth, just bring your card and phone.

Experience using BigPay
  • The main advantage of the BigPay e-wallet is that it has a debit card. Therefore, BigPay can be used as a primary source just like banks to top up other e-wallets. Advantages like this should be taken advantage of because it is easier to collect BIG Points.
  • For example the experience of ordering food using GrabFood, pay with GrabPay. But don’t forget, BigPay debit cards have become the main payment source for GrabPay. So, every time you order food with a value of RM20, you get 2 BIG Points with Grab points.
  • If you are lazy to drive a car, especially Kuala Lumpur residents, use GrabCar and pay with GrabPay as well.
  • But if you want to drive for those who do not have their own car, can use a rental car such as Socar or GoCar, also make payment using a BigPay debit card.
  • Going to the night market or grocery store can use the Boost or Razer Pay apps at 7 Eleven. Both of these e-wallets can also be topped up using a BigPay debit card.
  • Shopping for kitchen items at supermarkets like Tesco, NSK, Giant, Village Grocer and others can of course use the card. Make the most of your BigPay debit card, use more BIG Points more often.
  • Google Pay and Apple Pay can also make BigPay debit cards the primary card for app, magazine or music subscriptions. For example, every time a YouTube Premium monthly subscription payment is made, there is a record of the transaction in the BigPay app, easy to monitor.
  • Toll payments use PayDirect on the Touch ‘n Go app, top up using a BigPay debit card.
  • Buying ERL tickets at the kiosk can be paid using a debit card, get more discounts, save more than buying directly at the counter. For example, the ticket price from TBS to Putrajaya if you buy in cash at the counter is RM9, but buy at the kiosk using a debit card is only RM7.20.
  • Based on the experience I recounted above, it is very clear that cashless practices provide more rewards to consumers. As an individual who is literate in financial management, this practice should be practiced by the entire society in our country.
