Wow! 69 Million WhatsApp and Facebook Messages Sent Every Minute

The COVID-19 pandemic and social distance have led to lifestyle changes around the world. A large proportion of the global population is increasingly relying on the internet and social media in their daily activities.
The Internet in the pandemic era is used for many things, from communicating, studying and working from home, to online shopping. Statistic company Statista is trying to analyze what is happening on the internet every minute in 2021.

Quoted from Livemint, Saturday (6/8/2021), the Statista study found 69 million messages are sent via WhatsApp and Facebook Messenger every minute. This is certainly not surprising given that WhatsApp and Messenger are among the two most popular messaging apps in the world.

By comparison, in October 2020 Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg revealed that WhatsApp sends 100 billion messages a day sent by its two billion users.

Statista also noted that in one minute there were 695,000 Stories shared on Instagram. While on YouTube there are 500 hours of video content uploaded every minute.

Not only on social media, Statista is also looking at how internet users are looking for entertainment and partners in the midst of an epidemic. They found 28,000 users watch Netflix and there are two million swipes on Tinder every minute.

These findings show how fast the internet moves, even in just a few minutes. Moreover, there are also internet users who access several services at once, such as sending chats on WhatsApp while watching Netflix, so not surprisingly.
