Santa Claus is awaited especially by children who believe in his existence. Scientifically, it turns out that the calculations related to Santa Claus are very interesting to discuss.
Citing Tower Press, scientists who analyze Santa Claus from a science perspective agree that he usually has about 32 hours to deliver gifts to children around the world. Starting with locations in New Zealand and Australia, Santa Claus worked around the world until finally completing his gift-giving voyages in Alaska, Hawaii, and elsewhere in the Western Pacific Ocean.
But his calculations could have been different had he limited his gifts to children between the ages of 0 and 14. He still has to visit the homes of some 1.93 billion children on Christmas Eve. However, this number could be reduced by up to 30%, if he limited his visits to children celebrating Christmas.
To visit the homes of more than 600 million children in the space of 32 hours means Santa Claus must travel at astonishing speed around the world. Scientists theorize that he experienced something called time dilation, which is a phenomenon in which time slows down for an object the faster it moves.
In other words, scientists expect Santa Claus to move so fast that time actually slows down for him. As time slows down, he has more time to deliver gifts
Time dilation also means Santa Claus ages more slowly than the average person. That means, Santa Claus also live long, hoho!
At the same time, scientists theorize that Santa Claus experienced a phenomenon called time contraction. With the contraction of time, the size of an object decreases the faster it moves.
How much does Santa Claus carry?
Santa Claus needs to travel at a speed of more than 10.7 million kilometers per hour or 1,800 miles per second. This speed certainly doesn't take into account the pit stops he has to make to eg... use the restroom or to rest and feed his reindeer.
Scientists who have thought about Santa's logistics have also paid attention to the weight of the sleigh Santa is carrying. So heavy! His sleigh is estimated to weigh around 1.232 million tonnes once it is fully loaded with all the toys he will haul each year.
This weight includes Santa's weight as well as the weight of Dasher, Dancer, and the rest of the reindeer, which may each weigh around 600 pounds (272 kg).
